the power of uncertainty

use it.

or

lose it.

countdown to a kiss...

I wake up to an IM about the Royal Wedding, the analysis of a balcony kiss, and photos of a Duchess in my would-be wedding dress.

Some people are so blessed.

Just be happy with what I've got and what i had... easier said than done.

From the looks of the race elevations, this is gonna be a sweet run. That initial descent is gonna feel like the beginning of a roller coaster! Awesome!

Knees need some special attention this week. Don't wanna beat them up on the downhill at the beginning of the May 1st 13.1.

the happiness project

Began reading this book around New Year. The idea is intriguing and also... easy. Dedicate a year to consciously making your life better, making your life happier.

There's also a website w/ daily sources of inspiration, ideas, reflections. Here are some awesome quotes that have got me thinking, too.

"The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer somebody else up." Mark Twain

“There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy.” Robert Louis Stevenson

"Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41-42

“Imaginary evil is romantic and varied; real evil is gloomy, monotonous, barren, boring. Imaginary good is boring; real good is always new, marvelous, intoxicating.” Simone Weil

“What a wonderful life I’ve had! I only wish I’d realized it sooner.” Colette

“It is easy to be heavy: hard to be light.” G. K. Chesterton

“A man’s first care should be to avoid the reproaches of his own heart.” Joseph Addison

“Best is good. Better is best.” Lisa Grunwald

“Order is Heaven’s first law.” Alexander Pope

life is dukkha

cannot twist my leg.
cannot put pressure on my knee.
shooting pain from my hip to my toes.
pain that makes me want to keel over and curl up in a ball (but it would hurt too much to get in that position.)

say it ain't so.

knee brace. ice. rest.

i need a miracle for may 1st.

oh, jane...

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Pride & Prejudice, Jane Austen

remember me?

this woman's work

The Virtuous Woman

Proverbs 31:10-31
10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

i broke a cardinal rule of shopping

Don't buy clothes that you don't fit... yet.

hahaha.

So I bought a dress last year in Toronto and I haven't worn it yet. I'm declaring it my birthday dress this year, and I'm gonna wear it. This is a promise. Stay accountable, Rita. Stay accountable.
