The Mystery of the Incarnation

Today, we celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation. That is, a Central Christian doctrine that God became man in the form of Jesus, the son of God and the second person of the Holy Trinity. In Jesus the divine and human nature are joined but neither is changed or diminished.(http://www.answers.com/topic/incarnation#ixzz19CRxVPbA)

"And the Word was made flesh"

Merry Christmas!!

----------

I love my last name.

In my 2nd semester of freshman religion, my teacher told me that I had a pretty cool name. Rita Encarnacion... like Reincarnation... he said I should make "in the flesh" my phrase. LOL. I thought it was pretty funny, but it didn't happen.

And then there was Nacho Libre...

Anyway, after Mass today, I was thinking about how I don't want to give up my last name. It is so special to me. I'm totally hyphenating.

smile

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time (thats the time) you must keep on trying
Smile- What's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.

A Glee Favorite: "Smile"

will there be a 12.22.12?

peacemaker assemblies

Back at St. Agnes we used to have a weekly school assembly to recognize "Peacemakers" in each class. A "Peacemaker" is chosen from each class and another student explains what that student had done to deserve this recognition.

Teachers had different ways of handling the selection process. Sometimes kids were nominated. Sometimes numbers were chosen out of a hat. You wanted to be fair and make sure each student was recognized throughout the year.

You would hear similar affirmations on a weekly basis. That ________ is kind, shares, is a good listener, helped ______ on the playground, helped ______ with their homework, puts others first, doesn't talk behind your back, is a good friend, etc. One that always struck me was that _______ always had a smile on their face.

Today, this still strikes me. This affirmation was used to describe me several times during those peacemaker assemblies. And my how times have changed...

Today I thought about smiling. The power of a smile. What goes into a smile. A smile is easy to produce when you're genuinely happy. You don't even have to think about it. It just happens.

Then I began thinking of all the times when I've had to fake it and put on a happy face, and I've realized that I've become this person over the years who is rarely content, always stressed, never satisfied. I've become a person who can suck the happiness out of a room. That's NOT ok. That's NEVER ok.

How do I become a person who can bring joy into people's lives again? How do I become a peacemaker again?

Here's to making a conscious effort to be peaceful, joyful, optimistic, and energetic again.
Here's to making a conscious effort to build up and support the community around me.
Here's to making a conscious effort to smile.

Love. I need to make a conscious effort to love. Love God. Love others. Love me. A life without love is empty.

I want to be overflowing with love. Maybe I've built up too many walls and dammed up the love inside me. I'm ready to let my barriers down. To let love in. And let love flow.

Let's start with smiles.

"Show me that smile again. Ooh show me that smile. Don't waste another minute on your crying. We're nowhere near the end. The best is ready to begin. As long as we got each other. We got the world sitting right in our hands. Baby rain or shine; All the time. We got each other Sharing the laughter and love."

for good

This goes out to all the loves and losses of 2010.
"Because I knew you, I have been changed for good"

"For Good" from Wicked

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return

Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart

And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:

Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

And none of it seems to matter anymore

Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood

Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?

And because I knew you:
Because I knew you:

Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.

I believe that everything happens for a reason

I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
-Marilyn Monroe

Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, that's just fabulous.
